Electro-Voice RE320 Microphone
Gear Review - by Craver
We've been testing out the EV RE320 dynamic microphone at the open mics in Atlanta for the last month. The really cool thing about this mic is its flexibility. We used it for vocals, acoustic guitars, and percussion.
Here's what EV says about their mic:
The RE320 is a professional quality dynamic microphone designed specifically for recording and sound reinforcement applications requiring extremely low noise and the highest level of predictable tonal and transient response. Ideal for capturing voice and a wide variety of electric and acoustic instrument sources, the RE320 delivers unparalleled detail, dynamic content and natural tonal performance. RE320's unique "Dual Personality" switch creates two ideal microphones in one body. One switch position delivers voice, electric and acoustic instruments with a lively, yet natural tonal response, while the other switch position delivers an "insta-kick" curve designed specifically for kick drums.
Vocals - The RE320 delivered a crisp, clean sound when used for 'live' vocals. Many musicians commented that this mic 'really sounded great.' I used it at a few solo-gigs and I was very impressed with the warmth of the tone.
Here's what we found...
Acoustic Guitar - When we put the RE320 on an acoustic guitar, we were pleased with the results. It did very well in a tough open mic environment. Feedback is always an issue when trying to mic a guitar. We were able to achieve great volume without any problems. The instrument tone was well-balanced, both warm and clean.
Percussion - We put the RE320 on both a cajon and a djembe. Both had good results. The versatility of this mic really came through when we flipped a small switch. It instantly adjusted to deliver great bass response from both percussion applications.
Recommendation - I would recommend the EV RE320 for anyone that is looking for a mic that can have multiple applications. It delivers very high quality at a reasonable price.
